你小时候想过以后干什么吗？
有一天，我问儿子：“你长大后想当什么？”
儿子回答说：“爸爸，我长大后要当北极探险家。”
我很高兴：“好极了！”
儿子又说：“我想马上开始训练。”
我觉得很奇怪：“怎么训练？”
儿子回答：“北极非常冷，我每天吃一桶冰激凌，就能适应那儿的温度了。”

“极了”在“形容词.+极了”中，表示程度非常高。
“极了”in the structure of “adj.+极了” means “a great degree ”.

适应
accustom to
“适应”，动词。是“适合（客观条件或需要）”的意思。
“适应” is a verb that means “adapt to (a condition or a need)” .
北极非常冷，我每天吃一桶冰激凌，就能适应那儿的温度了。
The North Pole is very cold. If I could eat one bucke of ice-cream every day, I would be able to adapt to the weather there.
